This might be a dumb question, but it’s something that I’m worried about. I’m going to have a vasectomy quite soon, and my work mates have been winding me up something chronic about getting an erection during the procedure. I’m easily embarrassed unfortunately. I know my mates are wind-up merchants, and know to take what they say with a big pinch of salt. However, I would like to know how often it actually happens in practice. Thanks, Jason.
Dr. Edward KarpmanErections while undergoing a procedure is not a side effect reported in any study on vasectomy I have ever read. Therefore, the exact incidence is unknown. In my experience, I have never seen an awake patient having an erection during a vasectomy. Erections do occur spontaneously under general anesthesia because of the inhibition of higher motor centers in the brain, similar to when we sleep.
