Is it true that a doctor will not perform a vasectomy if you have ever in your life had a hernia?

    Dr. Edward Karpman

There is no contraindication to performing a vasectomy after a hernia operation. However, there is the possibility that if you had a bilateral hernia operation with synthetic mesh inserted, you might already be sterile. A recently published report highlighted the process of vas deferens obstruction in the inguinal canal after mesh hernia operations.

The best course of action is to have a semen analysis performed prior to signing up for a vasectomy. If you still have sperm present in your ejaculate, find a physician who is willing to perform your vasectomy.
