My partner had a vasectomy done about 8 weeks ago and I am 3 weeks late on my cycle. Just wondering what are the chances of me being pregnant as I have pregnancy symptoms. I also done a home pregnancy test last week and is negative.
Dr. Edward KarpmanUntil you have confirmation from your physician that the vasectomy was successful, “all bets are off” as they say. It is important to continue to use some type of contraception prior to confirmation that your vasectomy has been successful. A couple can get get pregnant even after a successful vasectomy if adequate time has not been allowed to clear the remaining sperm from the downstream portions of the vas deferens. Home pregnancy tests are not completely reliable and can show a false negative result. The most reliable way to confirm if you are pregnant or not is to have a quantitative Beta HCG test performed by your physician.
