This is most likely impossible. I would like to know the probability of becoming pregnant at age 46 from a man who is now 73 and had a vasectomy many, many years ago. I believe I am going through some form of perimenopause, as I have night sweats, occasional missed periods. I have always through life had a menstrual at 28 days, like clockwork. I am having odd symptoms, missed period for an entire month, slight headaches, (never get headaches) tight feeling in abdomen, very hungry. I had a child at age 20, and actually felt conception. Feeling very weird and would appreciate some feedback.
In general, a man can father a child throughout his lifetime independent of whether or not he has had a vasectomy. Sperm production is maintained in men well into their 70’s and 80’s and this is also the case for a man that has had a vasectomy. In contrast, a woman’s reproductive span is limited after she reaches menopause, which is highly variable in women. If a woman is still ovulating and has healthy eggs, then she can get pregnant. I would always recommend that women older than 40 be evaluated by their gynecologists with a Day 3 FSH level, hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and pelvic ultrasound prior to considering the possibility of getting pregnant. In this particular scenario with an advanced maternal age, I would recommend sperm retrieval with IVF/ICSI for any chance of success. Simply because the likelihood of needing to wait 6-9 months for return of sperm after a vasectomy reversal would only make the female that much older by the time the couple could conceive.
