I have a question. Is ejaculating only three times after having a vasectomy sufficient enough to be given the all clear to have unprotected sex?
Dr. Edward KarpmanThree ejaculates after a vasectomy are usually insufficient to clear all of the sperm from the reproductive tract downstream from the vasectomy site. The disappearance of sperm is seen in a logarithmic curve and can last for up to 24 ejaculates. The only definitive way to determine if sperm are still present after a vasectomy is to obtain a semen analysis. All patients are advised to continue using some type of alternate birth control until it has been confirmed that there are no more sperm present.
