Myself and my partner would of liked to try for a baby, but she had a vasectomy ten years ago. She said she doesn’t know if it is reversible as she had her tubes burnt. Could you help us on the topic, or is there any other way i.e I.V.F.
Dr. Edward KarpmanA woman can’t have a vasectomy since she doesn’t have a vas deferens. Your partner likely had the female equivalent of a vasectomy that is called Tubal Ligation. As far as I know, these procedures are reversible as well. These procedures are performed by gynecologists specializing in microsurgery. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is very effective in this situation. In fact, the first IVF procedures were performed on women who had tubal ligations. The indications for IVF have grown to include any form of female or male infertility problem. A list of IVF centers including their success rates is available on-line at http://www.sart.org.
