Jose’s story: Mexican vasectomy experience

I’m from the sunny and beautiful Mexican Caribbean Islands. 40 years old with 3 kids. and a lovely wife, married 15 years ago.

I had my vasectomy performed yesterday. I decide to do this about 15 days ago when I heard an advice at the local radio news. Here in Mexico we have periodical “Vasectomies Governmental Programs-NSV” due the population control in Mexico.

So I decided after talking with my wife about this situation. She agrees (and was very happy) and I went to visit the Doctor. I hade a general checkout and a blood sample (to verify my blood coagulation status). And I was dated for June the 29th,2005.

I was advised by the Doctor:

1. Bring that day-tight briefs underwear and to wear them for two or three weeks
2. Take two hours before, by prescription Tafil 5mg pill (like Valium)
3. For the next two days rest at home and apply on the area a lot of Iced Gel Bags
4. Take for the next two days prescribed pain pills
5. Have a lot of sex after the third day or when I feel comfortable. But with the normal birth control, we used.
6. In 6 weeks bring to the clinic a seminal sample for laboratory sperm count

A friend of mine told me to visit some web pages to check information and other’s experiences, and after a lot of “surfing” and visiting this great page, I was ready to go. Day of the vasectomy

Yesterday morning I arrived at 7.50 am, and the Doctor and the nurse told me to get inside the pre-surgery area. I was told to completely undress and take a clinical dress. The doctor came in and said that we have to wait because they had two urgent first-time moms Cesareas, and they will use the surgery areas. After waiting for an hour or more, I was taken to that place and sat down in the operating table. The nurse sprayed me with antiseptic foam and I got an anesthetic blocker Injection on my lower back, done by an anesthesiologist. The Doctor started with the right side and I felt a little uncomfortable pressure that made me say “Me Dolio Doctor” (It hurts Doctor), After that, I felt NOTHING. I think it took 20-30 minutes, and when they finished, I was taken to a small room beside, where I take a little rest for another half an hour, During that time I was thinking about my worries and mental phantoms of the NSV; The pain, The scrotum shave, Been touched by the doctor or the nurses, Had an excessive shrinkage of my pennies and scrotum, unwanted erection, Etc. But nothing happened. Remember that Everything is in your mind.

The Doctor came in, made a check review, and told me to get dressed and go home. When I was leaving the Clinic, the Doctor Told my “Now the Factory is close and the Playing Park will be open in six weeks”.

For the rest of the day of the operation, I lay around on my Hammock, (always using the iced gel bag), watching TV, reading, and also talking with to “Compadres” (very close friends) that came to visit me. At night I went to sleep very comfortably and had a good night’s sleep. The next morning there’s no pain, very remote discomfort on my right leg close to the vasectomy area. Early I took a long term warm shower and a light breakfast, I have been resting and playing on the computer all morning long. Also with me iced gel bag. And taking the pain pills.

In two days, allowed by the Doctor, I will go sailing from Cancun Island to Cozumel Island, but staying into the boat (laying and resting and taking a lot of Mexican beer) not allowed to swim nor fishing, just watching and enjoying.

Update 7 September, 2005

Third day

As I told before, on July the 2nd I went sailing with my friends, the day was perfect for that, We took the sailboat early in the morning, and we faced to “Isla Mujeres” Island, I was feeling great, no pain at all, just a little discomfort with some sea movements, nothing that a Tequila and some beer couldn’t fix, I was driving the sails for some times, we arrived at Cozumel island by midday and we came back to Cancun Island, arriving in the evening.

Fourth Day

It is Sunday we came back home, everything is perfect and my wife is VERY happy. I forgot to tell that my kids are on summer vacations, so we sent them to visit their grandparents on the Yucatan peninsula. So my wife and I are like on our honeymoon. I had some remote pain.

Fifth Day

It is Monday, I went to the office, and everything is, as usual, a lot of things to do, paperwork, taxes formats and payments, and visiting some clients. A very productive good day. No pain, just a far ache on the incision place. Still using the tight briefs underwear.

Tenth Day

I started doing my regular physical exercises, I usually jog in the mornings and practice Tae Kwon Do in the evenings. Still using the tight briefs underwear.

Fifteen day

I visited the Doctor for a General Review, (check-up). Everything was fine, I was dated for bringing my sample for the lab analysis in a month, And by medical prescription, ordered to have sex every day. Still on my second honeymoon!

Seventeenth day

Hurricane Emily is staking the Mexican Caribbean Islands. I am watching the strong wind and heavy rain.

Two Months

I took to the lab my seminal sample and I am all-clear from now on. The doctor told me: “Ok Jose, the playing park is now open, 24 hours a day, have a lot of fun!”
