I had my consult in early December, and scheduled my procedure for January 8th. The doctor that I used gave me the option of having the procedure done upstairs in his office with PO Valium as a mild sedative or I could have it done downstairs with IV conscious sedation. (I.E. Versed, and Morphine). I chose to have the IV sedation and have my procedure done on a Wednesday afternoon.
I was really nervous and tried to talk myself out of it a couple of times, but I had already told everyone at work that I was having it done, and I did not want to seem like a big chicken. I bought the Jockstrap the doctor told me to get on Tuesday afternoon. I went to work on Wednesday morning and tried to stay busy to not think about it. I left work and came home at 12:00 and shaved my balls as the doctor had explained, took a shower, and waited for my wife to get home. We left and arrived at his office with 5 minutes to spare.
They called me back almost right away, which was good because I was so nervous. The nurse took me back and started the IV. They took me to the procedure room and gave me some Versed and Morphine. I went into a light sleep. The doctor arrived and told me he was going to numb me up and gave me some injections of marcaine into the skin and the two vas. It stung pretty bad, but not unbearable. I went back to sleep and in 15 minutes he came in and said he was getting started.
When I woke up a few minutes later it felt like someone had kicked me in my left testicle. I told him that it hurt like hell, and he numbed me up some more. I went back to sleep and it seemed like 10 seconds had passed and he was telling me he was done. I put the jockstrap on and went home.
I slept on the couch with bags of frozen vegetables on my groin. I slept fine that night with no pain. Thursday morning I woke up and was in some moderate pain on my left side with bruising. I did not take anything for pain, although he gave me a script for some pain medications. Friday was better, not as sore. Now its Saturday and I feel better, just a little tenderness.
In summary the procedure was not as bad as I expected. I am glad that the doctor that I used gave me the option of having the IV sedation. I have not tried out the new plumbing yet. He told me to wait at least a week. I don’t think that I want these things swinging around bouncing off each other just yet. I hope this might help someone that is nervous about having it done. It really is no sweat at all.
