First of all, let me say that this page helped quite a bit in preparing for my vasectomy. I’ll admit that I was pretty nervous, and most stories I’ve heard were not typical of my experience.
It’s been 7 hours since the operation, and I feel fine. The actual procedure took half as much time as filling out the paperwork and other preliminaries. My biggest concern (like most) was the injection into my scrotum. However, this was less painful than having blood drawn. By the way, mine was a no-scalpel vasectomy. The injection was a very minor sting for about 5 seconds. following the initial injection, I was given one more in each vas deferens. These also were a very minor sting. Up to this point, any fears I had were very unwarranted.
If you are in the Tampa Bay area, check out Dr. Douglas Stein. He was very encouraging and explained everything before he actually did it. After the injections, I was out the door in about 10 minutes. My wife was actually surprised when I walked into the waiting room smiling.
Afterward, I experienced very minor discomfort that lasted about two hours. It wasn’t a stabbing pain or even a very dull ache. It felt more like a little bit of pressure, but definitely bearable. 400mg of Motrin helped. It’s recommended to stay off your feet for 24 hours, but after 4 hours on the couch, I felt fine. If you have any concerns about the pain, don’t ignore them, deal with them. It is definitely not what you would think it is.
