Moose’s experience: Shh… Don’t tell my wife!

Hi, Just a short story about my experience yesterday.

Unbeknownst to my old lady (aka the wife), I scheduled a vasectomy. I scheduled the procedure without her knowledge because I figured she didn’t care. After the initial visit and before the actual procedure, I asked her if she could pick me up on the day of the snip. She slowly figured it out (they are clever about that) and expressed her concerns. She said she considered it a significant surgery, but warmed up to the idea. I think she was worried about possible complications. That’s about it.

As with any male sensitive procedures, I asked all the guys at work “are you snipped?” and was welcomed with a wealth of info. I was told who to avoid, how to prepare, and asked why I waited so long (I’m 47 with one kid). I have to admit, it made me feel much better listening to my pals and getting real info instead of the generic hogwash that can be found in the vasectomy handouts. (this website was helpful also).

My procedure was done by a urologist and was no problem. I was administered some valium and sat in the office while it took effect. Then I was taken to the snip room, changed clothes, and waited some more. The doc came in, performed the 2 cut method, and as I was changing back to street clothes, the old lady walked in to drive me home. While still in the room, I showed her the two “wormies” on the tray and thought briefly about taking them home for a souvenir. I’ve heard some guys do that. The rest of the day was uneventful. I wore a jockstrap and did the ice pack thing.

My only gripe was waiting so much. For a 15-minute clip job, I waited an hour and a half. I highly recommend the use of a jockstrap. It only cost me $3.50 and was well worth the comfort it provided. Also, I’d like to include the advice to shave yourself (my friends told me this, it was good advice) the day before you go in. Just be gentle because one of my pals said the razor rash he gave himself was the most painful part of his procedure!

Thank you for providing this site.
